Milwaukee Radio: After 30-Years, Carole Caine OUT At WKLH

Carole Caine
The long-running “Dave & Carole” show on WKLH 96.5 FM is no more as the station’s management decided not to renew Carole Caine’s contract, the Saga Communications station said Monday in a press release.

"After careful consideration, WKLH has made the decision not to renew Carole Caine’s contract. Carole has been an integral part of WKLH’s morning show for almost thirty years."

Luczak came to the station, then WMGF in 1983, with Don Girard. Caine became newsperson in 1985 and full time co-host in 1986.

She signed-off Monday morning.

From now on, the station’s morning show will be known as “WKLH mornings with Dave Luczak,” who is the “Dave” half of the “Dave & Carole” combo. Caine’s last day co-hosting the show was Monday.

“Change isn’t easy, but it’s inevitable,” said Ann Marie Topel, the vice president of the Saga Communications Milwaukee Radio Group. “We are very grateful for the many years Carole Caine has been with us. She has had a long, admirable and impressive career with WKLH. We wish her well and thank her for her years with us.”

The Milwaukee Business Journal reports Luczak actually started the show almost 33 years ago, debuting as “Girard & Luczak” on 96.5.

This is the second notable change announced at WKLH in recent weeks. The station rebranded to “Hometown Rock 96.5” from “Classic Hits” in April and shifted its music mix to include more 1980s tracks and less from the 1960s and 1970s.

  1. I am back as a 'KLH listener after Carole's departure. Frankly, I couldn't stand her know-it-all comments. She was wrong more often than not. I found myself screaming "Shut-up!"at my car radio on my morning drive every time I heard one of her stupid and uninformed remarks.
As a woman, she insulted my intelligence more than once.

  2. Really? I think you need to rethink your "intelligence".

  3. Here's why people aren't listening: they are out of work and don't have a "morning drive time" anymore. Getting rid of Carole was a mistake and the comments being made by KLH are insulting. Some "hometown" brand. Give me a break!

  4. Funny that KLH says they are going in another direction when the show is the same as it's ever been. Only difference is Carole is gone. Just changed females. What other direction did they go? And what is hometown rock? I haven't heard any songs from any "hometown" groups or individuals. KLH should simply admit the real reason they changed. I can only guess so I won't. We will miss Carole's banter.
