Yahoo News Ranks as No. 1 News and Media Site

According to December 2014 research by Experian Marketing Services, Yahoo News sits atop the news and media website hierarchy.

The analysis found that after passing The Huffington Post in November 2014 to claim the largest share of visits to news and media sites among US internet users, Yahoo News maintained its reign in December 2014.

The number of total visits to the site last month came in at nearly 239.5 million—3.83% of total visits to news and media sites—compared with just under 204.1 million for The Huffington Post, equating to a share of 3.26%.

CNN.com came in third, with 2.78% of visits, but interestingly, other more traditional news sites didn’t fare as well. Google News, FOX News and The New York Times came in eighth, ninth and 10th place, respectively—all with shares less than 2%. Meanwhile, weather sites and more entertaining news sites sat in the middle of the list.

According to eMarketer, Yahoo will take in $2.66 billion in US digital ad dollars in 2015. The company’s earnings increased just 1.7% last year but will grow more strongly in 2015 (4.6%) and 2016 (5.2%) as it strengthens its mobile search and mobile display channels.
